What to ask before hiring a landscaper
A landscape project is expensive, permanent, and deeply personal. It's worth spending an hour getting the questions right before you sign anything.
The ten we wish every client asked
Are your team employed or subcontracted? How deep is the sub-base? What is your drainage detail? Do you hold public liability and employer's liability insurance? Can I see a recent similar project finished? What happens if the price moves after starting? What is your guarantee and does it cover materials as well as workmanship? Who is my day-to-day contact? How do you handle neighbour issues on boundary work? When do I pay?
If a landscaper hesitates on any of those, that's your answer.
What a good answer sounds like
A good contractor will answer every single one without flinching. They'll show you insurance certificates, a method statement, a couple of references from recent work, and a written schedule of rates that makes clear what is included and what isn't. Nothing should feel vague.
